Mo Salah scored his 29th goal of the Premier League season as Liverpool came from behind to beat Crystal Palace 2-1 at Selhurst Park.
The Egyptian kept his composure to score from Andy Robertson’s cutback in the 84th minute and send the three points back to Merseyside.
Palace had lead at the break after a Loris Karius error gave them a penalty, which Luka Milivojevic converted from the spot.
However Sadio Mane’s goal drew Liverpool level early in the second half and wasteful finishing from former Red Christian Benteke meant it was still 1-1 when the crucial chance fell to Salah, although Palace will argue Liverpool should have been down to 10 men at that stage.
The result lifts Liverpool to second for the time being, while Palace stay two points and two places above the relegation zone, but the teams below them have games in hand.
TALKING POINT
Why wasn’t Mane sent off? Having already been booked for diving, Mane felt he was fouled on the edge of his own box and grabbed the ball with his hand. He hadn’t been, so Palace got the free-kick, but that was as far as the punishment went. It was the most obvious case of deliberate handball you could ever wish to see, and Neil Swarbrick’s decision not to show him a second yellow card was baffling.
MAN OF THE MATCH
Mo Salah (Liverpool): Who else? It wasn’t one of his best days, but he had looked dangerous throughout and, as ever this season, was in the right place at the right time to bag the winner.
